Special Things

This is Bunny. She is my son's favorite stuffy. She's special. When I ask him why Bunny is special, he tells me "I've had her for a long time, she's like the first stuffy I ever had". He's six, and that's not exactly true, but that's OK. I've been migrating my photos off of Google Photos to Ente, and while looking back, there is a time before Bunny came onto the scene. Since then, she's an omnipresent figure in our lives.
Why are some things more special than others? I have favorite coffee cups and shirts. I know my partner has favorite blankets and soft things. Some people have favored gadgets and other things that have sentimental value attached to them. Sometimes, going through a rough period or a challenge gives something sentimental value. A great example for me, is a stainless steel coffee cup with a carabiner handle. I purchased this cup when I deployed to GITMO with the Army Reserves. I needed something that would survive the abuse of travel, and the likely fate of being crushed. But it made it. This cup is still here. It's covered in stickers from the 327 MP BN, Colorado, and DEF CON. I treasure it, and often take it with me on travels.
I think these items are important. They ground and connect us to our past. They provide a sense of continuation and comfort. What's your Bunny?
